CHARACTERS
AMAIA – Young orphan, inhabitant of the red shoes. PRIEST – Priest of the town, doubles as essential ruler MAGICIAN/GYPSY – Traveling magician who creates the damned shoes and entices Amaia with them.
ANDER – Love of Amaia, who also condemns her once the red shoes are on. CATALIN – Best friend of Amaia; desperately wants to be her friend, but is forced to condemn her with the rest of the town. GABRIEL/WOODSMAN – Cuts trees, wood and is the only person who has not condemned Amaia. Is her last hope to remove the shoes. TOWNSPEOPLE (2)


The StorefrontIt was another lazy Sunday. Lazy streaks of sun floated through the windows, illuminating the dust-thick air of the bookshop. Bobbi flipped through an old copy of Hamlet, wondering how someone could’ve given up such a gorgeous old printing of it. She set the book down and had started to wander to the next shelf when the door opened, causing the little bell tied to it to tinkle pleasantly. In walked Alexander, wearing an oddly appealing orange scarf that was typical of his style. Bobbi tried to look away, but their eyes had met before she could. The street is dark and musty; turning another corner Andie is affronted by the potent aroma of gasoline and the bottoms of hundreds of shoes. She sighs and continues, pulling her coat tighter. A derelict or two stares out from the darkness, envious of this fine, pale creature. Andie shrugs their presences off her mind like dirt on her red shoes. She continues onward, bound for home, all the while wishing she didn’t have to make the journey. Passing by yet another dark alleyway, Andie pauses. The faint sound of music brushes her ears. “Music?” The patrician’s cerulean eyes grow wide with surprise. “
